RHS Football STATE FINALS

Friday, November 21st was a really fun night.  It was the State Finals for the 3AA, 5A, and 4A high school football teams. We arrived (outside on the road) at the stadium during the first game (3AA), BUT it took us the next HOUR to get around the parking area and find a spot... the only reason we actually got to park was because a fan from that 3AA game came back to their car to leave.

My dad drove.  I was so excited when he decided to go with us this week.  He, himself played football at Roy High (a '72 graduate) and was excited to see if we could actually win the championship. Before we could watch Roy play, we watched the 5A championship game.  As the fans from that game slid out of their seats we gradually made our way down to the FRONT ROW!!!

We were seated at the 40 yard line... Kotah thought it was fun to know that HIS team actually warms up in the same routine as the high school team.

The players were announced, the anthem was sung (quite poorly actually.... poor boys had to have been totally scared out of their heads), and the game kicked off.  Roy started with the ball. Kotah's favorite player is #24, Tyler Etuate (I don't know how to spell his last name) pictured below.  He has had some AWESOME games this season and Kotah likes that he plays offense, defense as well as special teams, "just like he does".

At half time we were leading 7-0 and the excitement in the stadium seemed to be carrying the boys when they needed it.

When the teams headed to the locker rooms, one of the workers on the field asked us, "Hey, so, is ANYTHING open in Roy tonight?".... We knew there had been a lot of fans the previous week and could see the fans still coming in as the game started, but it wasn't until half that we actually stood up and SAW how packed our side of the stadium was.

Ultimately Roy lost, but they played their hardest and right down to the last possession we hoped they'd still score again. I LOVED watching Kotah so excited about the plays.  He'd tell me which player was in his position almost every play.  I was so thankful my dad came with us and could experience the joy and energy that was filling that stadium.  Roy had the largest crowd ever to attend a high school football playoff game, so at least we can say we really are full of ROYAL PRIDE.
