May 21, 2012 was the kick off to our summer nights spent by the fire at my parents' house.
We started the night with grilled ELK STEAKS thanks to Jeremiah and my mom. Jer went home after eating (because he had to be to work this morning at 2:30).
After finishing dinner we made our way into the pasture (although it isn't much of a pasture anymore with all the wonderful grass and play area now).... so we made it out to the pasture where my dad had built a bonfire and had it going to create the burning embers that are perfect for roasting marshmallows for SMORES :)
Here I am helping Kaiya her first time... she was so hesitant around the heat of the fire (thank goodness)
Sitting bravely close to the fire since it was next to Kotah and with Kenai
Kaiya was climbing on ever log there was available out around the fire pit... the taller and higher the better. She finally got on one of the HUGE logs by herself and stood up, then tried clapping for herself at which point she tumbled right over and off the log again haha :)
When it was time to put the fire out we hooked up the hose and let the boys pretend to be firemen. They were so great at taking turns and pointing out where there was still some smoldering ashes or steaming hot rocks that needed cooling down.
...by the time the boys were finished with their "work" the fire pit was nothing more than a dirty, black, water pit... that was when Kaiya was willing to get closer (with Grandpa) to have her turn spraying the water.
Bath time last night was a messy, messy, MESS, but getting that way was so worth it. I LOVE summer family time fun at my parents' place. There is just NoWhere like it, ANYWHERE.
