This day started out windy... and NEVER warmed up. Here we stand at the border again... this time we are leaving South Dakota and dropping back down to Valentine, Nebraska then driving West to The Wounded Knee Massacre Monument (on our way to Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse)
When Jer and I got back in the Tahoe a gust of wind blew threw it and took off with a poster Jer had gotten for Kotah... it flew threw the parking lot, across a grassy area and landed about 2 feet inside of a barbed wire fenced field with cattle in it... we ran after it and Jer crawled under the fence to get it (so where is that poster now???? It made it home, but then your guess is as good as mine)
(above) this picture represented Border Crossing #4 (below) represents Border Crossing #5 (and we would not be back to the wonderful state of Nebraska again on this trip.
We decided to stop in at the Monument for the Wounded Knee Massacre since it was on the way if we went one way over another. The following pictures of the surrounding area at Wounded Knee.

My dad checking something out with the boys.
When we stopped for lunch just South of Custer this is how Kenai was sleeping... notice his flip flops and how he has them hooked into the pocket (I LOVE THIS KID)
When we got to Custer we checked into the hotel and then just headed out to Crazy Horse... this is what the boys had been waiting for the whole trip. It was something like 3 in the afternoon so we had plenty of time before dinner and the light show after. We watched a movie about how the Monument came to be and then wandered all over looking at things (we didn't even see all of it)
(above) Family Portrait with the smaller scale model finished of CRAZY HORSE... (below) Family Portrait with what will one day be the full scale MOUNTAIN of Crazy Horse
One of the coolest parts (according to the boys) was when we went out on a boardwalk balcony thing and got to watch some dancers. The guys are the most fun to watch. Not only are then dressed up all fancy and cool, the actually MOVE ALL OVER and as they stomp their feet the bells ring...
This boy is from Jer's reservation and spends the summer with his Grandpa at Crazy Horse doing these shows throughout the day.
The guys below is the current National War Dance Champion. He did a traditional Sioux Stomp dance... (not sure that's exactly what they called it... I'd better check with JER haha)

For one of the dances they asked if there were any children in the audience that would like to go up on stage and participate... Kotah got up and therefore Kenai followed right behind him. The old gentleman asked each kid where they were from and the boys proudly stated their names and the fact that they were from UTAH!!!
Kotah doing his best to follow the dancer, but then realized he just had to keep with the drum and hop up and down as he spun around in circles from time to time...
Kenai was getting really into it, then got kinda tired so he just started "running" in place with the beat of the drum. He was the youngest one up there so that was pretty good (there were some girls that just stood in place the whole time)
Check out Kenai's JAW... that is how into it he was at some points of the dancing haha. And of course Kotah made a friend, he was from Denver.
At the end of the dance performance they did "The Flag Dance" and Jeremiah was so happy/proud that he got to do this with his boys. He told me that while watching the boys dance on stage he actually got a little choked up (don't tell him I told you). He was a Proud Papa Bear!
Many of these Dance Pictures are thanks to my mom. I was busy with the video camera so I was VERY grateful that she let me copy and use what she took. Later that night we went back to Crazy Horse for a light show they put on. It was a cool experience. If you ever go see CRAZY HORSE try to make it to the light show they put on... and pray that it isn't FREEZING like it kinda was for us. (Just how cold was it? I had Kaiya in the snugly, inside my sweatshirt, under the blanket to make sure she stayed warm... plus that helped keep me warm also.) This was a pretty awesome day. I was so glad my parents were able to enjoy all these fun things with us, and show us around where they had been when they went. I love you guys so much!!!
