Maui- Day 6 & 7 Happy Valentine's Day

Saturday, February 13

We just could NOT sleep in, not one day... We were always at least up (mostly ready too) by the time the sun was rising over the mountain.  We walked down to the water's edge to see the colors of the morning breaking forth every chance we had.
Our condo complex... ours was the right one.
This was a semi-planned day.  We had wanted to go hiking, but not on a long hike so we decided to go up to Iao Valley and see the Needle formation there... YES it was a nice SHORT hike, but really this was NOT a stop we would have bothered with had we not been misinformed about how awesome it was.  Clearly there are people in this world that have seen far less impressive features than I have, because this was a 2 minute hike on a paved path.

The needle is the piece of mountain sticking up on the LEFT...
Upon seeing just how unimpressive this location was we took our sweet time on the short walkways and played around with the cameras and GoPro (in the waters) because, Why Not?

Walking down by this stream was nice, but of course after all the other places we had already hiked and seen this was something that could have been missed and not really missed anything.

In order to get the flower pictured above this is what Jeremiah did... I'M SO GLAD I CAPTURED THIS... he seriously got down on the ground, so cute.
After the 30-45 minutes of time spent here we headed over to Krispy Kreme for a picture and a treat.  This "Welcome to Maui" is on the corner at Krispy Kreme and we had seen it when we first drove past on the first night, but until this day we had forgotten about getting a picture of it.

We had our treats and gotten our picture so now it was time for swimming... it was maybe 10 by now.  We drove over near the beaches we'd been to the previous day and spent about 4/5 hours playing and swimming.  I've gotta admit, when I first get in the water I'm a little nervous.  The waves are coming around me and pushing/pulling me... I don't like feeling like I could be washed out to the ocean (really does anyone?)... anyway.  After about 20 minutes of me being my nervous self Jeremiah swam up to me and picked me up and carried me out into the water where I could float in the waves.
I adjusted in an instant... LOVED swimming in the ocean and didn't ever want to leave. This was a memory I never want to forget.  Playing as kids play in the waters with my sweet husband.  Swimming out and letting the waves carry us back to shore.  Watching a cute family with little boys (who acted as I did about getting completely into the water... haha I'm a 6 year old).  The whole time was perfect.
We had packed a lunch and eaten while we were there.  When the afternoon had passed and it was moving into evening Jeremiah asked if I was ready to go "home" and get cleaned up for the night.  I really didn't care about going out to eat that night, since I figured a TON of people would be going out to eat for Valentine's.
We got cleaned up and went a little south of our place to Kalama Park to walk along the beach walkway as the sun was setting before getting dinner... At ThE WoRsT PiZzA PLaCe EvEr!!!
Good thing we can look back and laugh about it now, BUT seriously the WORST pizza EVER!

Sunday, February 14th

We had made plans to attend our Church Meetings while here.  According to the schedule we could attend at 9 or 1... We got up and headed to church at 8:30 thinking we'd be early and comfortable in our seats before too many locals arrived.  This was not what happened, is that really a surprise by now... seems like this trip was full of these little surprises.
The meeting house was right by Kalama park, about 3 miles from our condo.  We got there and went in thinking we were getting there plenty early; however, it was a REGIONAL meeting that day so it had actually started at 8AM.  We walked in and sat in in the overflow area towards the front/middle... by 9o'clock it was filled to the back and up onto the stage.  We still listened to the speakers that were being broadcast to the meeting house.  They spoke a lot about keeping true to the temple covenants and keeping our bodies/minds clean and pure by maintaining strong morals/values and following the guidelines outlined through the Word of Wisdom.
It is always so nice to be able to visit other wards/branches of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and know that what we are learning in our meetings are the same lessons being taught back home and all around the world.  NO matter where one lives, the gospel remains the same.  It is a worldwide church with members living the values and teachings to the best of their abilities.  The meeting ended at 10 and all those in attendance put up the chairs and left the building as we would in our own meeting houses.

Since we had planned on being at church until noon, we weren't ready for lunch yet.  We went back to the condo and changed out of our church clothes and into some more comfortable attire.  We drove on down past MaKena Beach (WOW! Was it ever packed this day.  Nothing like when we had gone the previous Tuesday.)

It was cool.  As you drive out there the road goes right through this lava flow field.  It looked like huge clumps of dirt that had been churned up with a tiller... but it wasn't, it was chunks of lava rock.

There was a small tide pool area, but the only thing we could see in them were tiny little fish swimming around.
We were having so much fun, more fun than we had been able to have together in a long time...
It was a wonderful Valentine's Day.  We had dinner at the condo and watch the new episode of The Walking Dead (so romantic huh?) haha After that it was 10o'clock and we were ready for bed.
