At the start of this season we were excited that Kotah would actually be playing with boys his own age. He would be able to play more and learn more without getting too roughed up. Little did we expect for him to be invited to play in the All-Star game at the end of the season. It was a fun experience for him to get to play with more boys that understand the game at the same (and beyond) level as he does.
He got an assist in the game and was asked by the coach if he'd be interested in playing on a COMP team for a few tournaments during the summer.
Since the end of the season he has had the opportunity to play with one team in 2 tournaments. The first team played in a tournament in Layton and one in Park City. His team had some wins and some losses. Kotah had a few assists and even got to score a goal. The thing to know about these teams is, they are playing U11. That means there are boys who could be turning 12 in September playing AGAINST Kotah and his team, most of which are 9 and 10 years old.
...on June 6th the Roy teams had their end of season banquet, where each of the boys won a door prize in a drawing as well as Kaiya winning with this black frosting cupcake allowing her to feel like a zombie for the rest of the evening.
During one of the Freeberville (the first post season lacrosse team) practices Kaiya wanted to play around in Kotah's equipment and during another there was this torrential down poor that swamped the parking lot and drenched my kids as they ran from the tennis courts (pictured below) over to the pavilion where I was sitting.
It was a perfect summer rain storm. The blue skies could be seen chasing the storm clouds so we just had to wait it out for no more than 5 minutes.
With all the activities the boys have been participating in this spring it is a wonder Kaiya has survived without becoming completely bored and impatient with them... except a few weeks back during the Park City tournament when she just wanted to go off on her own and have a moment.
It is funny watching her interact with all the bigger girls that show up at the park... she will wander over and quietly stand near them observing their behaviors until they notice her and then BAM, she is the center of attention until she decides she is finished with them.
It is a miracle she has not gone completely mad with all the practices/games we have drug her around to this year. THANK GOODNESS for other little siblings (and some bigger) to keep her entertained and occupied during all of them.
NU LAKERS- Competition Lacrosse
Saturday, June 20th
Kotah's All Star coach Steve works up at Snow Basin so when he suggested a team practice/social even with the boys up there last week we were very excited to go and participate. The boys had practice at 9AM in Huntsville before going back to the resort for lunch/hiking/playing around.
We rode the gondola up the mountain with the team (well, Kotah was above with his coach and team members) and the rest of our family rode up together separately. Kenai was a little nervous at first, but quickly began to LOVE the ride and the view.
When we were all up to the top we gathered the boys (all that could make it for the activity) and snapped a photo before hiking over to where they wanted to play.
The boys kept hiking up and rolling/sliding down the snow until someone, I have no idea who's idea it actually was, suggested the boys take their shirts off see who could lay face down on the snow the longest before getting up...
By this time the boys (and really all of us) were hungry and ready for lunch. I got this photo of my littles before we started back down the mountain for some grub.
I am so thankful for the opportunity Kotah is getting right now. He gets to play with his friends. He gets to participate in a sport he LOVES. He is learning more about the game and is developing his skills to become better and better.

These three boys are the 3 ROY BOYS on the team.
They played in a tournament this past weekend in Sandy. They lost, but the point of this tournament was just to see their starting level. You see, they have only had 6 (at the most) practices as a team so to be able to play with teams that have been practicing/playing together for months is exceptional. Kotah had an assist and a few shots on goal.
Lots more fun to come with this group of boys.
